Refresher days for WML, IML and MCI
Have you started on the pathway to a Mountain Training Qualification? Are you trained and getting skilled up for assessment? Have you attended an assessment and deferred on an area and you wish for more guidance and support before reassessment? Have you held a qualification for some time but had a career break or feel rusty delivering your remit?
I offer two types of refresher courses; open courses or private 1:1 tuition. Some people prefer to do these days with others, others prefer the attention that 1:1 allows, that choice is yours.
Courses are with Simon Verspeak, an experienced trainer and assessor of multiple awards and Mountain Training approved course director for RCI, CWI, and ML schemes. I am an approved CPD provider for MTA, BAIML and AMI, and an approved trainee MCI workshop trainer.

Scotland: Fort William/Glencoe
Open courses = 1:4 max ratio, £80 per person per day
Private courses = 1:1 ratio, £240 per day
The days are bespoke and flexible; I will ask you for your aims and incorporate these into the day. Venues will be focused towards these aspirations. Typical focus areas include using the ‘be Avalanche Aware model’, route selection, teaching skills, snow anchors and navigation.

The hazards of leading in the Alps or the Greater Ranges are both different and more serious than in the UK, hence your tool box needs to be bigger to cope with the diversity of management techniques.
Over the last 6 years I have run a number of BAIML approved and private workshops focusing on helping individuals prepare for assessment or rub the rust off little used skills. These days draw on my experiences living and working in the Alps and guiding big trips overseas.
Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor
The Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor is a serious and complex qualification, requiring thorough preparation which as a long time award holder and workshop trainer I can help you with. This help is likely to be very bespoke and individual so it is best to contact and discuss (as an estimate £280 per day) various options which might include:
Phone or face-to-face action planning and feedback
Observing, shadowing or assisting
Time on the crag or in the mountains
