Welcome to OranjeBergsport

OranjeBergsport was inspired and run by Simon Verspeak. The name is homage to my Dutch ancestry and simply means Orange Mountaineering!

Adventures are what I am about and skills for adventures are what I can do for you!

I hope to give you the skills to become self sufficient; to enjoy the adventure whatever the challenges!

mountaineering, rock climbing, Snowdonia Navigation, Hill walking mountain leader and mountaineering instructor

What I can do: instruction in all aspects of summer mountaineering; navigation, climbing and scrambling and leadership in winter hill walking.

What I can offer: personalised learning; tailor made and unique to your requirements. So whether you are an organisation looking for staff or an individual looking to expand your horizons – get in touch to discuss

Where I can do it: theoretically anywhere in the UK! Courses run in a variety of locations according to your requirements but most will be based in Snowdonia in North Wales.

When: I don't only run courses on set dates, so I can instruct when works for you.

My day out with Simon was really useful. The content of the day was tailored to my needs, and the delivery was pitched to match my understanding. I finished the day feeling happier, more confident, with new ideas to improve my delivery.

A big thank you. I so enjoyed the day - it was everything I hoped and even the weather couldn't dampen my spirits! I really appreciated how patient and clear you were with your explanations - I got a real sense of how experienced and thoughtful a coach you are.

I first came into contact with Simon when putting my Mountain Safety website together, and he kindly contributed a "hill story”. We then communicated about the best way for me to qualify as a Mountain Leader. However, whilst I had many years of hill experience, I was fairly clueless about some aspects of the syllabus and assessment itself, but Simon was there to assist. He took me onto the hills, with the brief from me to give me some ML type situations, and at the end give his honest view about my competence and suitability. My navigation was good, but following Simon's input I realised that it needed to be to a more honed standard. My environmental knowledge was poor, and the day was an awakening to this aspect of ML. Simon wrote down a few areas on which to concentrate, and several months later he gave my log the once-over. A little over a year after our hill day, and many personal practice walks later, I passed the ML assessment first time.
